There’s a definite connection between food and movies that extends
well beyond boxed candy, buttery popcorn, and sugary soda. Whether
it’s movies about chefs ("Julie & Julia”), cinematic feasts ("Soul
Kitchen”), or downright food porn ("Tampopo”), there’s much evidence
that moviegoers crave more than just concession stand stalwarts, as
recently proved by the September opening of Jason Denton’s Indie Food
& Wine at Lincoln Center. Sate your culinary curiosity with this
week’s NYC Food Film Festival starting tonight that lets viewers
"taste what you see on the screen.” Serving up more than tasty sound
bytes, the fest kicks off with a salute to burgers and beers
benefitting the Food Bank for NYC. See flicks at tonight’s opening,
like "The Good Beer Seal,” the world premiere of "Burgerlution,” and
other shorts, then feast on grass-fed burgers from Burger Maker and
Ovenly’s bar snacks and beer cupcakes. Yum!
