After curating—and playing—the I’ll Be Your Mirror Festival hosted by All Tomorrow’s Parties America this past weekend in Asbury Park, Portishead heads to the city to play the Hammerstein Ballroom for a two-night residency. It’s been more than a decade since the band’s last U.S. tour and, for those of you who have lost track of the British electronica outfit in the meanwhile, they have released some albums since the early aughts. Explains Pitchfork, "Portishead producer and multi-instrumentalist Geoff Barrow [who was also in Massive Attack] is such a perfectionist that his group has only managed to release three albums in the past 15 years.” But fortunately, they’re worth the wait, "Third” released in 2008 was deemed by Pitchfork a stunner at a Best New Music 8.8 and even just last year the site fawned over a single released for Amnesty International. Take this op to catch vocalist Beth Gibbons, Barrow, and crew because it could be another decade before you get another chance.
